NOT MY BUSINESS. ACT LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED

It's not entirely clear what's going on here. It might seem like the police car was chasing the other vehicle, but if you pay close attention, at the beginning of the video, there's another white car making the same move, exiting at the same spot. So maybe the driver realized he was blocking the police car and was just trying to get out of the way by taking the same exit. Who knows? Both possibilities seem valid. Whatever the case, the driver certainly isn't stopping to ask the officer if he's okay—he probably doesn't want to end up taking the blame himself.

Weapons create paradoxes that are hard to resolve. In a country where they’re legal, those who don’t carry one put themselves at a disadvantage against those who do. But if everyone is armed, no one dares to use theirs because they know the other person might shoot first. And yet, in a country where they’re banned, the only ones who have them are those who don’t follow the law, leaving everyone else as defenseless targets.

The theory says that arming the population creates balance, a game of deterrence where the risk of retaliation keeps guns holstered. But reality is far messier. Owning a gun, in itself, can push you to use it in situations where you otherwise never would have considered it. A misunderstanding, a pointless road rage incident, a moment of anger… and suddenly, pulling the trigger feels like an option.

If no one carries weapons, there’s no dilemma. If everyone does, the risk is always there but kept in check by mutual fear. And between these two extremes, the paradox remains: allowing guns means that those who don’t carry them are at risk, banning them means only those already outside the law will have them. So the real question is: which scenario would you rather live in?

PUT YOURSELF IN THEIR SHOES

It’s easy to criticize how quickly police officers in the United States resort to using their weapons, but to truly understand, you have to put yourself in their shoes. The pressures they face are not just a matter of perception; at any moment, a routine stop can turn into a life-or-death situation. That constant tension creates an environment where every second counts, and any hesitation could cost them their lives.

Do they sometimes go too far? Absolutely. But there are also moments when, without acting swiftly, they might never have made it home to their families. This isn’t about justifying the unjustifiable but about understanding the context in which they operate: a world where split-second decisions are the norm and the cost of getting it wrong is, quite literally, life itself.

This reality doesn’t excuse abuses, but it does shed light on why being quick on the trigger can sometimes mean the difference between tucking your kids in at night or leaving them orphaned.

HUMILIATED BY A SWAT ROBOT

In Texas, an unusual incident took place when a SWAT unit used a robot to apprehend a fugitive in a rather humiliating way. Felix De La Rosa, a 39-year-old man, was wanted by the police and was eventually located in a motel. When officers tried to arrest him, De La Rosa opened fire, creating a high-risk situation.

To resolve the conflict without any injuries, the officers deployed a SWAT robot, which released tear gas into the suspect’s room. However, as the robot approached, De La Rosa cleverly covered it with a sheet and shot at it multiple times. Despite his efforts to neutralize the robot, he couldn’t stop the machine’s counterattack. When he tried to escape, the metallic agent managed to neutralize him by rolling right over him. During the struggle, the robot accidentally pulled down his pants, creating a rather embarrassing moment for the suspect.

WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT, ART OR LIFE

Contención, or the ability to moderate our impulses, is key to maintaining harmony in society. While some people ignore these norms and act without restraint, if everyone did the same, we’d be living in total chaos. Contención isn’t about repression; it’s an act of responsibility and respect for the common good, allowing us to avoid conflicts and strengthen the social fabric. It’s the conscious choice to prioritize order and recognize that our actions impact others. Only in this way can we preserve a just and balanced society, rather than being swept into disorder.

And while contención is fundamental to keeping order, sometimes letting go and doing what truly feels right is incredibly liberating.

MY GRANDFATHER THE SPECIALIST

My grandfather was a jungle specialist for the British Army in Malaysia.

They used to teach point men to hip fire with precision because contact in jungle warfare was so sudden and close that taking the time to aim properly was just too slow.

They started by having them hip fire at targets 1 meter in size just a few meters away, and then they slowly reduced the size of the target and increased the range. It took a few weeks or months, but to pass, they had to be able to hip fire instantly and hit a moving, plate-sized target at about 30 meters. (I can’t remember the exact distance).

Apparently, most of the class could usually hit a moving tennis ball at 30 meters with a hip-fired SLR the moment it was thrown.

I wish I had met him, but he died during a training class due to a cross-eyed soldier.

ELECTORAL FRAUD IN VENEZUELA

Several countries are denouncing electoral fraud in this weekend's elections in Venezuela. On social media, visual evidence is being shared of ballot box theft, vote recount prohibitions, and other tactics to block voting and seize ballots.
The Venezuelan people are taking to the streets, and the Venezuelan National Police, along with Maduro's paramilitary groups, are working together to massacre innocent Venezuelans protesting against Nicolás Maduro's electoral fraud.
