I'm enjoying this thread and I think both sides have excellent points to make. This has provoked a thoughtful, avid discussion about privacy, trust, banning, behavior, etc.

Perhaps you're afraid of confrontation. I don't know. But I don't think any "shit has broken loose." Perhaps you're just offended that this came so quickly after OMGs banning. Are the two incidents too close together?

I did want to make it public. It was very relevant to that thread and I have found that talking about it and perhaps helping to prevent it from happening to others helps me (and hopefully others).

Not to toot my own horn but I think it's rather courageous to share something like that. I was trying to be helpful. I was trying to make those who are into child pornography aware of the other side. Plenty of women have made this situation public. I'm not the first and I won't be the last. It's not something that manages to remain a private matter in most cases.

And I was being defensive. I wanted everyone (not just you) to know that this wasn't a matter of "he was mean....BAN him". As some were implying.

Well said. I too have shared some personal stuff, and (crossed fingers) no-one has really wound me up enough for me to do anything to myself.

Those that have abused me I have taken with a large pinch of salt, and a hefty dose of disdain. In fact, sometimes it is a better tool with personal attacks to either "ignore" them as postees or ignore the posting.

When I can't ignore it, they get a good dose of sarcasm, seriousness, or just light-hearted banter. People hate it when in their attempts to offend you. they amuse you, and you draw other people's attention to your amusement.

"asshole percapita ratio"? What about asshole permember ratio? We are a forum consisting of members who have to follow rules of decent behaviour so that nothing gets out of hand. Otherwise discussions just get destructive. And it should be strongly noted that thanks to our moderators, your ratio is, I suspect, very much lower here. (By the way, how many members have made postings or PM's in the last 30 days?)

Banning people that crave attention doesn't necessarily incite anything further, it just deprives them of attention/publicity, and we will soon see any multiple personalities. And if you think they "are established forum members just fucking with everyone", then please name names. I won't stick around here for long if I know that you or anyone else behaves like that for fun with impunity - trust me on that.

Why shouldn't we have discussions that get inside people's minds? I can take a lot of offensive language because of my uncommonly low opinion of myself, and usually let someone else comment before I reply to anything nasty, and do the same for others. But just because of my pain threshold, should someone inflict it?

The only thing we really need to discuss here Imagination are the finer hypocritical points of opposing censorship when it comes to porn but advocating it when it is something you don’t like. How do you get around that one Imagination without using the same arguments the anti-pornography movement uses?

Is it so bad to expect members to be civil? As I've said before, I love that we argue and bicker on here. And I love that there are so many different opinons. But saying "I hope it hurt when you got raped and gives you nightmares" isn't exactly an opinion. Nor is it a helpful observation. It's just plain mean, heartless, and pointless.

I might add that no one went running to the Mods asking for Bated to be banned. I don't know about OMG's situation. Some may have asked for it. But the point is that there's no need to ban people like you, Stumbler. We may disagree but you've provided a very sound, logical argument. You didn't sign up for the place so you could run around telling everyone they're "fags" or "perverts".

Is it so much to ask members to have a bit of respect for others? Most of the petty "you're such a fag" or "omg you're so ugly" crap is rooted in other arguments and long time rivalries. But for something like that to be someone's first action on this forum is (to use your analogy) like some kid running onto the playground and biting another kid for no reason. Of course the parents are gonna get a bit upset and try to remove the offending child.
